List of unused highways in New Zealand
This is a list of unused highways in New Zealand.
- Wellington Urban Motorway (State Highway 1), Terrace Tunnel - a 3-lane, two-way, carriageway that was originally built in the 1970s as the northbound half of a 6-lane layout. Construction of the southbound lane was permanently halted due to financial constraints. The pillars that would have handled the southbound carriageway are clearly visible from the Clifton Tce carpark under the motorway. [1]
- Wellington Urban Motorway (State Highway 1) - an old single-lane off-ramp is still extant between the southern end of the Terrace Tunnel and Ghunzee Street. The ramp was used as the southbound exit of the motorway until the Wellington Inner City Bypass opened in 2007, when southbound traffic was diverted to use Vivian Street.
